Welcome to a new weekly send that is simply a list of links I’ve lovingly curated for you. Think of it as your very own books, bodies, and culture morning paper to replace your AM social media doom scroll.
FYI, you’re getting a special Tuesday edition this week, but The Digest will typically be a Sunday or Monday morning send - let me know if you have a preference.
You might have noticed things are looking a little different around here- more on that soon.
x Jo
I was pleasantly surprised by this list of director John Chu’s (Wicked, Crazy Rich Asians) book recommendations. I loved Yolk by Mary H.K. Choi and just picked up Permanent Record from Chu’s recs (Elle)
The state of sustainability in fashion is unsurprisingly woeful and brands need to “put their money where their emissions are” (Vogue Business)
Portugal is perhaps #1 on my travel bucket list and I loved this look into chic Lisbon spots (W Mag)
In other chic travel news, we got a first look at the new season of White Lotus which will have a religion + spirituality focus (Glamour)
Southwest is making some changes and plus size travelers are urging them to keep their customer of size policy intact. Sign the petition here (Washington Post)
This is randomly still one of the best smelling things I’ve ever purchased
If I had to choose, I’m more of a tomato or anchovy girl myself, but the coconut girls have much better perfume options (Bustle)
Olympic speed walking is so Brat - from what I can tell…
… since I haven’t listened to the album. But! I did check out this list of books for Brat summer - I still have yet to read lit girl fave Bunny (W Mag)
Color trend reports for fall are coming in hot - loving Mulled Wine + Clear Skies + Ballet Slipper (Marie Claire)
I actually *do* need to try the 7-Eleven pumpkin spice slurpee and I’m not sorry about it (NY Post)
In fact, the only summer thing left on my list this year is a visit to hot new seafood restaurant Penny to try their stunning shrimp cocktail (Infatuation)
If you are squeezing in another summer vacation, may I recommend a luxe suit from Nomads Swimwear? They provide truly luxury pieces in sizes XS-5X and are one of few brands that get inclusivity right
Anthropologie dropped their fall kitchen collection and it’s not getting me jazzed the way I thought it would tbh (Food and Wine)
I loved this piece on how Elena Besser is shining a spotlight on New York's next generation of culinary talent (by the lovely )
Nara Smith inspired Phlur’s new scent “Heavy Cream” (Who What Wear)
When I was in middle school I had a weird, misplaced aspirational obsession with Evian face mist (why did I think I needed that?) and I still get sucked in by a good hydrating spray (Allure)
I love hearing that more savory cocktails are in our future - my favorite is still the Cafe Cluny Filthy Martini with garlic infused vodka + tomato water (Food and Wine)
Ina Garten is everything I aspire to be. Same girl, same
I’m so interested to hear Blake Brown Beauty reviews from people I know IRL. So far I’m not intrigued by the branding / packaging / PR coverage but I am interested in the dry shampoo for the scent alone
Am I out of touch or do I just hate many of the trends this season? (See also: Polka Dots)
I am, however, still into butter yellow and Mary Janes, and I wish these affordable + chic brown ones were still available in my size (Who What Wear)
This led to me to coveting these which I would pair with this darling dress in the white or striped blue. I really need to get into my J.Crew era
I very much resonated with the advice of “planning over defaulting” and “changing the channel” to protect your peace in a thin-obsessed culture (The Newsette / + Alex Michael May)
How cute are these needlepoint matchbooks? I sense a project coming on…
There is an abundance of content being published right now about the future of Botox as it relates to the beauty standard. Are we entering the NOtox era? (Elle)
We bought the ingredients for these buttery brioche strawberry ice cream sandwiches and I’ll report back asap (NY Times Cooking)
~ And a little of my own scrolling for you ~
That’s all for this week! If something in particular caught your eye in this send, drop it in the comments so I can continue to evolve this space in the right direction for you.
Speaking of which…
